GIS Analyst (Casual). Ariane started with Science for Wildlife, help out as a volunteer during the bushfire crisis and now works with us using satellite imagery technology to help us plan surveys, incorporating fire intensity and vegetation recovery rates. Her work is important in helping us to assess the condition of any habitats where koalas have survived, to predict other areas that might support them and to characterise fire refugia. She also lead the development of our latest camera trap project in Zooniverse, researching AI and various platforms to sort through over 30,000 images. If you’re wondering what is in the sack she is carrying, it’s a koala! They settle right down in what must seem like a giant pouch to them.
