Research – Raquel visited from Belize to undertake a Masters Degree in Wildlife Health and Population Management at the University of Sydney in 2015 and elected to do her individual research project with Science for Wildlife (S4W). She worked out in the field with fellow student Stephanie, tracking koalas. Raquel’s project was focussed on evaluating the best techniques for surveying koalas in the very challenging Blue Mountains terrain, which includes very tall forest and thick tree canopies. She helped us look at how well GPS units work under these conditions, compared to VHF, and also at how effectively we can use scat counts as a survey method in these habitats.
