Working With Traditional Owners

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the areas in which we work and their Connection to Country. We are proud to work with Aboriginal groups, to learn about and promote Indigenous knowledge of Australia’s wildlife.

Much of the Connection to Country has been lost as Aboriginal people were moved off their land, including their deep knowledge of local species of animals and their seasonal movements. By participating in ecological monitoring programs, some of that knowledge and connection can be regained, while also collecting data that is critical for threatened species management.

Our first program has been a collaboration with Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural and Education Centre. We worked with the Centre at a strategic level to integrate scientific ecological knowledge into their Traditional Owner land management programs, and to help restore indigenous Connection to Country.
